On July 26, 2017, the members of the Halal Export Development and Promotion Board with their corresponding representatives, convened at the Industry and Investments Building, DTI, Makati City for the signing of the final draft of the implementing rules and regulations of the Republic Act 10817 also known as “PHILIPPINE HALAL EXPORT DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION Act of 2016”.
The Halal board which was established in line with, R.A. 10817, is led by the trade Secretary, who is in charge of overseeing the Philippine Halal development and promotion programs and Accreditation of halal-certification and testing bodies. Each members of the board presented their agencies’ commitments and plans on the implementation and promotion of Halal programs in order to boost the development of the Halal industry in the Philippines.
The Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) is mandated to formulate and harmonize halal standards with the other countries and international standard setting organizations, and upgrade and provide facilities like slaughterhouses, warehouses, cold-storages and laboratories to ensure the quality of halal products. Thus, the Department of Agriculture plans to strengthen the Halal Food Industry Development Program to promote environment-friendly and sustainable Halal farm practices and provide alternative recreation facilities and most importantly seeks to raise awareness and encourage investors to participate in the economy and business of Halal.
